More importantly, I need to buy some parts for the mondy, who do you guys use? I'm talking genuine stuff (e.g. expansion tank - the last budget eBay job almost cooked the motor, nil-hour failure when I was bleeding the cooling system, it decided split the seam and let all the coolant out). I also need some big ticket stuff like shocks (preferably Bilstein ones to go with new lowering springs)

on non-mondy related news, pulled out all the interior minus headlining from P10 primera - found a big rust spot at the A pillar, a size of a couple of golf balls, right at the corner of cowl drain area, I believe.
At least (I think) I know where the rain leak is coming from. I should be able to take the chunks out from inside and plug and glue with knead it or something like that. Another rust hole, smaller, size of a pea but the adjacent surface has rusted, but not thru, just under the cowl cover. Will have to wire brush and see how bad the metal is underneath.
there is some water weeping thru in the boot also, I think it's where the rear bumper mates to the metal. and also mystery drops of water occasionally find the way to the spare wheel well.

It seems the MK3 Mondeo isn't alone beset with expansion tank probs.... I also read the Jag X-Type forum and they experience split tanks too. Not had probs myself, and I've also got a pre-facelift.

bought the tank from a local dealer for around GBP120. a bit more expensive than getting from UK or EU but eBay has become very finicky about overseas shipping, almost not worth it now.

I used to buy a lot of arduino stuff and dc-dc converters but the prices have gone mental. Looked at one
yesterday £23 where I only paid £5.67 before brexit. That was on ebay.com not UK, they were slightly
dearer on ebay.co.uk

I know they have to add VAT on now but thats some increase.

Bus? NHS? I thought it was going somewhere important like a new menu for MP's because best Salmon and
Caviar gets so boring. Where are the white truffles and edible gold bars?

I use arduinos in soooo many things, even the keyless entry to my house is arduino controlled :)

They have def gone up in price but you can still get a nano for £3.48 inc VAT on aliexpress, not looked at what the megas are going for lately as have a couple of megas and mega pro's in my parts draws but always pick the nano as its good enough for most things i use them for and want the compact design.

DC-DC power supplies are also reasonable on there, i recently got a 10A step up and current reg unit for £5.50, that is being used to drive 15x 10w 32v leds in a music reactive nano controlled strobe

one thing that has gone savage in price are flight controllers, it stings when buying those at the moment :(

drove mine today for the first time since the mot (in october)
fired up first turn of the key after hibernating all winter in the garage :)
lowest tyre pressure was 27psi from the normal 32 so that was great as well
and no leaking fluids was an added bonus
i've never fallen out of love with the car, but the drive today over 40 odd miles was so nice i just didn't want to stop
i didn't even speed or anything, even when i could have, or even overtake the slow moving cars in front of me
just a nice chilled out relaxing drive
must do this more often

Near side handbrake jammed in the 'on' position; first time this winter.

Since I have released it so many times and therefore am familiar with the modus operandi, spent 45 mins with the wheel off to release and lube it. Really poor design that it get crud / water in it so often.

What is the solution on the more modern Mondies? Or any other car?

I think other cars just have better seals to keep the moisture out, seems like that was an afterthought
or no thought at all with how quickly they seize.

Been well over a year since ive had to do that, not sure why its behaved for so long, ive had to do it every 6-12 months till the last time i did it.

I fill a syringe with engine oil, heat the caliper with a blow torch and inject oil into the mech while working it back and forth with a spanner on the arm and keep doing that till it snaps back rather than creeps back to to the released position.

My old man had a Mk3 years ago and replaced the calipers twice, he was gutted when i got one and saw how i and others 'fixed' the issue for free lol.

still no work being on mondy, because there is this one problem (hunting idle) on primera i wanted to fix properly to make it a daily and get back to mondy (it's 3 months behind the schedule just cos i bought the p10 on a whim)
but instead i did something else altogether - because the A/C gas all escaped long ago, i decided to ditch everything A/C, one being the compressor. with tensioning bolt fully loose, it was still too tight to get it off so i just dropped the compressor and out came the belt.
now i cant get the new, non-A/C belt on 'cos it's too tight and i can't drive it either, with or without hunting idle...
