What ET is best for the mk2 mondeo?

the standard ford wheel offsets are ET35-ET38 for the mk1 and mk2 mondeo.....but this all depends on rim widths.......most rims are 7"-7.5" wide which are fine....i had 8" rims with an ET38 offset and they sat nice and snug in the arch......

mine were 18's with a 60mm drop

so would 205 40 17, ET 37 be okay lowered 40mm?

Standard offset = et35 to et38, with a rim width
size of 7 to 7.5 check yours to see what they
are it is cast into the alloy somewhere.
Your ET IS 37,and even though you are lowering
40mm everthing should be fine.
