Which brake fluid ????

Which fluid do I need for a brake flush on my Mk2 zetec ? (1998)
Comma site recommends 5.1, the reservoir says DOT3/4 !!!

From what Ive read, this stuff wont mix... so what do you do ?

Its all SO confusing !

Thanks for any advice (Id rather ask here than the local shop !)

Oh, and how much will I need for a flush ?

dot 5.1 is compatible as long as its a non silicone base one.

Local shops INSIST that I need DOT4... "Suttons" (distributor who supplies these shops) say 5.1 !!!

Confused more than ever now... the reservoir cap says 3/4 .... so which is "best" and are they "mixable" ?

the 5.1 has a higher boiling point than the 3 or 4.
i guess the guy in the shop is only saying what was recommended when the car was built but things move on

I really don't think it's gonna matter what you use, but to use most 5.1 you'll need to empty the system first as they won't mix.

Most people use DOT5 I believe, just buy that and don't worry about it

DOT 5 is totally different stuff :shocked: So you would have to drain the system :eek13:

Bought a litre of DOT4 now... so that will have to do ! :}

u said u were gona flush the system anyway so in effect ur are draining it.
