thats what i thought, i wonder if he has put the blacktop cam cover onto the Focus RS engine? some people do things like that to make it more of a sleeper.
Yep, original Mondeo 1998 cam cover on a genuine FRS engine. The original RS camcover has broken in the w/o accident. Also uses an early Focus inlet manifold, modified to FRS spec, for the same reason.

Only other significant engine component swapped was the waterpump. FRS one, being bigger, hits the a/c pump, so std pump used instead.

As mentioned, front GB mount removed to give clearance for turbo. Rear mount 'tuned' by filling voids.

PS. More likely to find me on FFOC than PF.

Oh, and the FRS sump pan & oil pipe had to be swapped for blacktop Mondeo ones to clear the sub-frame.

The engine and it's ancillaries aren't the expensive bit of the modification, its all the 'little' bits like i/c, pipework, exhaust, etc that double the cost.

I estimate total cost of the 'Mondeo RS' was around £3,500 by careful Ebay purchases.

Hi everyone. I have a 2.5l mk3 mondeo zetec-s. it suppose to do around 170bhp. Someone changed a engine on it, I think it's a cougar engine but I'm not 100% sure.
I want to get a bit more power out of my car, I think to get about 500bhp. Is there a guid on how this can be done?

Maybe he's still afraid of putting those noses out of joint...
I know I would want to keep it close to my chest too; I couldn't be doing with the four potter gobshites and their green eyes.

I would be pleased for him because it must be 5-6 years in the making now? It would be an inspiration if he could get it to run well, consistently.

JESUS mate! How much money do you have?

You are pushing the very limits of the block with that much power. The ONLY way to get that much power is with the Nautilus Performance Stage 3 turbo kit, which is said to get around 600hp on the 3L Duratec. At that stage you will have to get expensive forged components and gearbox upgrades.

Diff explodes at 250hp, rods go at about the same I think, not sure how much the crank is good for but Fred uses the standard one on his so must be good for 350hp perhaps

Here's some figures for you for parts alone...

NPG Stage 3 Turbo kit (with IC) US$4600
Forged rods US$999
Low comp. pistons US$A LOT
Quaife LSD 500 quid
Quaife strengthened gear kit 1,800 quid
Quaife straight cut gear kit 2,700 quid
Custom ECU (Megasquirt, Link G4 e.t.c.) $A LOT!

Total cost: Not hard to throw 10,000 pounds at an engine and have continual reliability issues

thats not going to happen! it has been well documented that the 4 pot is the way forward for turbo power, people drop zetec units and turbo them into many other cars, how many do the same with the v6?

anyway this is the zetec turbo thread, keep it on topic please.

Might as well just delete from 2009 onwards as it's not about the ZT.

You've missed nothing, I was just saying nothing zetec-turboey has happened here since 2009

Shame as I'd love to see more build threads and discussion as I'd love to do a turbo build some day. Just don't have the confidence (or space) yet.

ahh got ya
just deleted my own post as I got what you meant now lol

I'm going down the ZT route myself, they are still popular to do but more often than not are seen transplanted to Escorts, and Fez's which is all good, but am surprised more Mondeo's don't just fit the turbo to the existing Zetec engine.

There's that youth and fun factor of smaller cars I suppose. But it's the larger cars that need the larger power more!

As much as I am a massive fan of the larger engines, in the Mondeo's case that means the V6, it just seems more hassle than it's worth to turbo them. I bet a mk1 2.0 turbo is a lot of fun...

yeah the Mondeo Mk1 and Mk2's problem is a small'ish engine bay, its a pity really as if there were more space there would be more options and easier to work around too. I think the v6's are very nice to drive, I once had a mk1 si v6, in fact it was my first mondy, I bought it when it was one year old it was one of the last mk1's too. But yes to Turbo a v6 or SC one is going to be expensive and hard work.

If the engine bay were a bit bigger (say the size of a Falcon), I'd drop a 4L Barra straight 6 turbo in there and make it rear wheel drive
