Sounds like ive got the same issue on a 2001 V6 Ghia x.

Seems to be coming from the drivers side front wheel.

If i turn the wheel even slightly to the left (while braking or not on the power) i get a sound that sounds like a zip tie (tie wrap) being closed, This stops if i accelerate (even with the wheel turned left) or turn the wheels back to straight or right....

I cant hear it with the window closed, also cant feel anything through the steering but i have heard a grinding/grating noise under similar circustances (turning left off the power) when i have the windows shut and radio/ heating off.

Any ideas welcomed, going to try and get a look at it this weekend if the weather stays dry .....

Mine got worse and then suddenly one day started whirring making the diagnosis slightly easier, new wheel bearing and now its perfect!

The amount of flat surfaces and the oval shape of the old bearings said it had been going on for a while.
