Hi all.

My wife was driving my sons 2010 plate 1.2 the other day when it started to over heat. When I added water to the cooling system to find the leak it was coming out at the bottom of the bell housing.
I've changed the thermostat housing and checked the hoses but its still doing it.
Is there a core plug on the side of the engine hidden by the gearbox? If so, are they prone to failing. The mileage is less than 38,000.

Thanks for any help offered.

Thermostat seals are a fairly common weak point as are hairline cracks in the plastic housings.

I didn't think they fitted a core plug that end but I found part number 1549983 which is a freeze plug.

Has the coolant frozen and pushed that out?

EDIT check just above the bellhousing it maybe above it? Fingers crossed otherwise its a box out job.

Been -4 here in the Midlands at 8am, just seen a picture of a scrap block on ebay and the old thing good about
the engine was the picture of the shiny core plug.
