Having seen some threads asking about these screws in a few forums...so..after recently fitting a new air filter and due to corrosion I had to hack saw a slot in (3 outa 6) of them to use a slot head screwdriver. I decided to replace with decent ones.
Ford originals are M5 with a 14TPI wood screw thread (measured myself with digi calipers) and I found them hard to source (without going to Ford of course).
So here's what I used after mucho searching for a 30mm x 14 TPI screw thread. (1.75-1.8mm pitch)

No.12 (12g) x 38mm stainless hex head (flanged) self drilling screws...you could get the BZP ones but I got the stainless ones.
Clamp an inch thick piece of wood to a bench or table and drill through with each of them.. then hack saw off the 6-7mm end bit and de-burr them with a file or emery paper. This leaves them almost exact;y 30mm under the hex....no concerns about taking the out or putting in again!!
12g has OD of 5.5mm which is only a fraction bigger than Fords (5mm) and the correct TPI.......the 10g (No,10 4.8mm) ones have 16TPI...so best go with the correct TPI me thought.
I reckon these screws will be common to many Fords hence the thread.
Look how much a Ford online retailer wants PER screw???
