I had my ST serviced the other day. When I was waiting I looked in some brochures and saw this gear knob. It looks pretty nice, it comes for 6 speed to and the light is possible to change between red and blue?

Has anyone here got this and know how it`s wired and if it`s expencive etc?

fordparts uk has it for sale on there website if memory serves & is basically wired like a normal LED would be wired ( to a 12V live of yoru choice & a negative ) if memory serves - all wiring hidden under the gaiter.

And really handy if you're not sure where the gear lever is......

But...a nice little project for you, Martin.
A sideline -standard knobs modded and backlit in Ford blue, to match the rest of your interior. :)

It is for sure available red/blue and 6 speed. At least it said so in the brochure. It had a part number too, don`t have that though cause the brochure is on Fords...

one would assume any dash lighting feed so that it lit up only when required ( on the mk3 there is a suitable feed to the ciggy lighter that runs by the gearstick area :D )

i think the hardest bit would be deciding which colour you wanted as that would dictate which wires you connected up ( i would assume there is one negative & 2 positives & you just connect up the + thats required for the desired colour )

Allen ford told me that the ford instructions tell you to splice into the wiring on the back of the stereo. When I asked them how does the wiring get into the gaiter on a facelift car fitted with a lift collar they couldn't give me a plausable answer as they didn't know. There is no clearance between the collar and the the lever, and the collar is too thin to easily cut a slot for the wires!

possibly the gearstick will need dismantling & maybe the inner bit of the lift up section will need a notch making in it to allow the wire through or something similar ( loads of messing if you ask me - unless there is a cunningly placed wire that pops out near the bottom of the gearknob & goes over the lift up section before vanishing into the gaitor again :whistling: )

the wire they point out behind the radio is probably the dash illumination feed & will be used as its generic throughout the range ( not every mota will have the illumination feed for the ciggy lighter/ashtray where the mondy has it so close to the gearstick hense using a generic location to save on printing many manuals )

Quite liked the idea when I saw em ages ago on ebay but hate the look of that gearknob :S looks a little 'halfords'.

Ben

I have the same gear-knob but without the LED stuff in it - http://www.fordmondeo.org/threadattach/1204057231-my_new_knob.jpg

you can only fit it to a non-lift reverse - so the only way for you is a short-shift kit and remove the lift-reverse nonsense - although someone will tell us that you can remove it anyways
