I went to have a look at a W-reg yr 2000 Ford Mondeo 1.8glx with 140k miles on the clock. No service history and a few very minor dinks (cracked front bonnet, dab of rust above rear left wheel) but otherwise seemed fine, excellent condition inside the cabin.

Guy was asking £825. His ad said the car was 100k (!) but when I looked at the clock and asked about the 140k he said "oops yes that's right". I'm inclined to walk away; 140k seems too high. Even 100k is at the upper end of what I wanted.

But if anyone out here knows whether Mondeos last past 140k, and how much one with that many miles on the clock is worth, then I'd be interested :)

Thanks!

(PS And this is my first post here! So be nice!)

Engines may well pass 140k, but theres lots more to a car than an engine.

For under £1000 you'll find a decent LX or GLX, or even zetec with under 80k.

This car you went to see, the owner sounds dodgy, you dont miss quote your mileage by 40k, walk away and look elsewhere.

Any doubt whatsoever, then walk away. Its not like there aren't any others about!

Russdee - I reckon you did exceptionally well with yours! You don't see many on eBay going for more than five or six hundred quid. Saying that, the traders are still charging far more.
