Limp Mode on Acceleration

Hi guys, i hope somebody can help as i have exhausted all options.... apart from going to ford for diagnosis! :S

I have had a spilt intercooler hose for a while and didnt bother to replace it until i got the faults i am experiencing, If i accelerate to 2,000 RPM ( area where turbo kicks in) the car will enter limp mode and if i try to drive it, it will cut-out and seems to be no power. The car has always ran fine apart from the slight hesitation in 5th gear on acceleration.

I know i have a leaking injector on cylinder 4 it has been leaking for a while and has not affected the running of the car, is there anything else i can try/test? all boost pipes are in a1 condition and the EGR valve is clean!

Regards Steve

Thank you for reading =]

Hi Steve,

If your car goes into limp mode then it should record one or more error codes. It could help to diagnose the problem if you could read or get someone else with a code reader to read these.

Update your location and the year of the car, Some years have their own issues. 53 plate onwards euro 4 models have an electronic
turbo actuator and they can cause limp mode when accelerating but doesnt usually cut out just drops to limp mode with reduced power.

Changed the fuel filter recently? (Proper ford or bosch one)

Split intercooler hose will have caused the engine to be overfuelling. Potentially that could have caused all sorts of damage.

Clogged EGR and turbo vanes from all the excess sticky soot produced. If the overfuelling had got really bad its possible that you could have bent
a conrod slightly.

You dont need ford to run a diagnostic, You can get basic codes and read liva data with a ÂŁ30 F-Super off ebay (laptop needed). That works on all cars
or later models can use cheap.ish handheld code readers, Ones with live data are better.

You can check fuel rail pressure and throttle settings etc.

Will F Super work on my TDDi ? I asked the seller on ebay and he said it only worked on TDCi models

Hiya Purple, thank you for your response to my problem, my car is a 52 plate and it has the air type actuator. Have checked the fuel filter all is clean, the filter is a ford genuine type.

The car has had a bit of a flatspot in 5th gear for a while but has always boosted okay... all pipes have been checked and are secure... kinda running out of options... could a leaking injector cause these sort of problems?

I would have thought so but totalguy said it only reads fault codes. I did ask him in another post if it reads the fuel
pressure and throttle position etc on his car but he didnt say.
