Evening all,

My 2007 MK4 Titanium X Mondeo has developed the issue that dogged so many of the damn early cars.......the bonnet release cable has been stiff for years now but recently the whole thing snapped on me.

To get around that I've gone under the car, removed the undertray, got my hand up behind the grill and have released the bonnet latch after removing the latch security guard.

Now the problem is that the cable has snapped entirely and the cable outer is so tatty and rusty it's not worth replacing just the cable so i've got hold of the whole assembly.

I can remove the release handle from inside the passenger footwell but work on the car today (been trying to fix my dodgy near side adaptive headlight!) has revealed that the run for the cable is an absolute nightmare!

Not only does it snake under the carpet, but it then disappears up behind the underlay up to the firewall. Now I can't feel it, but looking at the replacement part Fromm ford I'd guess that there's a conical plug that goes into the firewall then. The cable then appears wedged between the battery and the near side suspension strut.

Has anyone actually replaced this whole cable?

And is there a trick to it that doesn't involve dismembering the entire near side of the engine bay?

If you search for it on google, you'll find plenty of threads and help where peeps have done what you need to do.

If you can't find it on google, copy your post in the appropriate MK4 Mondeo section, where you will get much more help. :L

The mods have moved it for you, so you don't need to copy it again.

Did mine a couple of years ago and it is a bit of a pig. I have the 2.2 tit x sport so the air box and battery had to come out. There was a large connector to disconnect under the scuttle plate. Inside the handle was easy to remove and the glovebox came out and routing under the carpet was a bit but or miss and I just cut a large cross where I thought it went through the bulkhead. I think it was mostly ok in the engine bay with the above removed and I think I also took the headlight out (but couldn't disconnect it) and maybe loosened some other bits to route it.
