TPMS Car Receiver fault?

My wife's 2015 Fiesta 1.5 TDCI is showing a 'tyre sensors not detected' message on the info screen.
Resetting it via the menu clears it but the message returns a few miles later.
First thoughts were the obvious tyre sensor fault but taking it to a local tyre fitter they checked and found the offside front would not pair with the management system despite replacing the sender, once with what should have been the correct one and then with a hybrid learning sensor. He suggested that the on-car receiver was faulty which he didn't have the diagnostics kit for and would probably need a Ford dealer to resolve. (The investigation was done as a freebie. TyrePros Cheltenham - Thanks :))

I'm seeing no codes flagged on a basic OBD2 reader for this and can't find any info online on the car-side receiver. Can someone give me more info on how the sensors interface with the management system; Is there a TPMS receiver per wheel or is it a central receiver?
Any pointers about where to go next would be gratefully received.
