Hi guys

I hope someone can helpicon1.png.

I have a 2.0 Tdci 136bhp.

My car makes a woooohh sound when I change gear. Most noticeable when changing from 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear. It only does it as the revs drop. No noise when accelerating.

When I'm idling and I Rev the car the noise is present but only as the revs drop.

i found two videos on YouTube. Mine makes the exact same sound.

What could this be?

Ps. Power seems ok. No smoke or any other problems.

Thanks in advance

Mine does same, haven't had time to check it out.

It's not a whine or woosh, more of a howl on mine, as the reva drop.

It's either a boost leak, or if yours has a DPF maybe starting to clog up and it's putting back pressure on turbo.

A bit of an update.

I checked all of the hoses, intercooler pipes etc and the vacuum lines. I used the soapy water spray test to see any bubbling. I also physically checked everything and did not see or notice any splits or bubbling so all the pipes seem fine.

One thing I noticed was when I disconnected the electrical connector on the actuator on the turbo and when I revved the car the woooh/whistle sound went away. It was a lot quieter to the point where you could just about hear it. When I reconnected it the woooh/whistle came back again as before.

What does this mean?

Actuator controls the VNT mechanism which in turn regulates turbine speed.

Check turbo shaft itself next for movement.

Have you checked your exhaust ?. If your exhaust is blowing you would hear the woosh from the turbo. I have a straigt through exhaust on my mondeo tdci and I get that sound cos of no backbox. You should notice it around 2.5k revs the most
