hit a problem. I have the motor up on axel stands at the minute. Started work fitting the koni suspension kit i have, passenger side 1st. all was going well until i got to the pinch bolt on the rear knuckle. Bloody hard to loosen but it started, and then it snapped :tonofbricks: . had to drill it out on one side to release the strut end. i then moved on the the front passenger side and the pinch bolt is just as tight there. before it broke i gave up until i get some advice.

Q: how can i remove the pinch bolts with ease? any tips will be well appreciated.

it might sound daft , but ......... , heat it as above and spray it good and proper with releasing oil , then , try and tighten it slightly before trying to undo it and spray it again :L

a small propane blowtorch should do the job , you dont want it cherry red , just expanded a bit to let it go free , oh , and watch out for anybits like the cv joint covers , obvious really but people have melted them in the past :whistling: , good luck , let us know how you get on :L

and thinking on , once it becones free make sure you loosten it then tighten it a bit then loosten and tighten till you get it all the way out , less risk of the threads catching that way :L

a bit bigger would be needed i reckon , something like you would use to strip paint off a doorframe for example , the sort of thing you would buy at b&q for example :L

that was the sort of thing i was thinking of , like i said it does not want to be cherry red , just warmed up enough to start releasing the rust and crap holding it :L

and when it is coming loose if its tight turn it a few turns then wait a few mins because if you dont you will be turning and turning and all the time your doing that the bolt is heating up and its more likely to snap.

the worst ones are the lock nuts with the plastic top part (not applicable in this case) they tend to undo stiff and if you undo them too quickly the bolt part will heat up and snap, its happened to me before on the anti roll bar links

yep for sure :L

i get tips off my mechanic, he was changing my rear arms, end links and arb bushes and the nuts for the rear arms at the centre of the car were rusted bad, he was going to do it outside his house but said bring it back next weekend he would get it in the garage i asked would i need new nuts and bolts he said nah dont bother ill get them off nae bother and he did and cleaned them up and refitted them used a blowtorch one of thosewith the big tanks not a standard gas one he said heat does the best job 10 times better than wd40.
