I have a ford transit connect 2005 which has a 1.8liter 90ps lynx engine. This is basically a mk1 focus up front. I'm looking into various ideas for an engine swap for increased power and can't find much info on a derv solution. I don't want to go down the RS,ST 170 petrol engine route. So my question is, can any of the 130bhp > mondeo engines fit or any tdci engine for that matter, without any major fabrication taking place to make it fit.

A lot of work, Unless your fitting a complete loom from the donor car.

Engine swaps these days are not what they used to be.

I thought the 90PS was a TDCI lump? Or is it just a TDCi badge?

Only the lower powered 75 was a TDDI unti?

The Duratorq DLD-418 is a 1.8 L (1753 cc) intercooled common rail diesel engine. It is completely unrelated to the 1.4/1.6 units, and is a development of Ford's 1.8 8v Endura-D engine that saw service through the 1980s and 1990s. However, Ford considers it part of the DLD family, as evidenced by the official "DLD" name. The Endura-D was heavily revised and updated with a variable-vane turbocharger and a Delphi high-pressure common rail injection system and relaunched in 2001 as the 'DuraTorq TDCi', with the original engine being rebadged 'DuraTorq TDDi'.

Quick wiki link easier to explain. So mine is a Tdci, some of the earlier connects have a TDDi around 03 when they were first released. I would be looking a getting a complete donar car, so I have ecu, fuel pump etc readily to hand. Ideally I would like to put in a ZSD 420 or better still 422 but not sure what gearbox these had and the measurements of the engine. The connect has the MTX75. What is the differences between the 420 and 422 to give the 2.2 engine more power are they basically the same engine/size.

Problem is people have transplanted the 2.2 into 2L mondeo's and they have not run properly. Even after swapping ECU's etc.

Its going to be trial and error, How long can you afford to have the van off the road?

i think the focus and transit connect engines are 8v where the mondeo ones are all 16v

change could be done but id expect u would need the ecu but that could be problematic putting a 16v engine in a 8v vehicle the ecu would probably not pair up to the other electrics
