I was messing with the menu on my stereo the other day. And found out how to reset the VIN Number. (My stereo was replaced under warranty as the rear speakers stopped working and the garage didn’t know how to reset it.)

Radio is a 6000CD with centrally located on/off and Volume control. It might work with other radios

Note: if you do not press a button for 3 seconds during the reset the display will go back to radio.

1. Hold the Menu button for a couple of second then release it when the screen changes.
2. Press it twice again to scroll to the Vehicle ID Number.
3. Now press the right arrow button. It will now ask you for your Radio security code.
4. Enter that by pressing the number buttons 1 to 4. (Press numbers 1 button say four times if the first number of your code is 4. and so on.)
5. When you have entered the code press the number 5 button. The VIN will show and the first letter/number will be flashing.
6. Turn the volume control to change it to the right one then press the right arrow button to go to the next number/letter.

Excellent, thanks for this

Wonder if it's possible to do on other models as well, i.e. sat nav cd unit, saves going to ford for recoding....

No, definitely no chance on the sat nav. However it is possible to have the sat nav units without a VIN code stored and them still work

aye.. i can vouch for that.... I managed to get an uncoded new touchscreen that works with any other component i throw at it...

I'd love an IDS system, but £3k is a little over the annual budget for the moment...
