Hi

Have you fitted a genuine Ford or Jaguar crankshaft pulley?

Peter

Dont think its alternator as I fitted new one in June and it feels perfect, but there appears to be a hell of a lot of flapping of the belt when engine running between A/C pulley and crankshaft pulley. Is this normal as Ive not noticed this before.....

Is the crank pulley running true? Have a look down under the drivers side wheelarch, You may need

to remove the small flap to get a better look.

Hi so got my tool and tensioner, so how does the tensioner tool work what bit goes and pulls/pushes where?

Turn the tensioner over and you will see 2 square holes. The 2 pins on the tool fit into the holes and you pull the tool to take the tension off the belt. IIRC the tool has to be pulled to the front if doing it on top and to the rear if working in below.

Hi just to say I bought Gates Kit had it fitted by a friend of mine at local garage and it couldn't have sounded worse rang Gates never had this problem before tensioner was rattling like mad jumping 6-10 mm but because I bought the kit would only replace full kit so being a mate he had a mondeo in for a camchain change fitted crank pulley from this on mine SILENCE but still no joy from Gates so bought original Ford crank pulley again Silence SO just to finish JUST BECAUSE IT'S NEW DOES'NT MEAN IT'S NOT FAULTY

Just to bump this brilliantly informative thread: I've got some creepy pictures of my failed crank pulley:

And a video of the same pulley.

I've posted earlier that there was a thin piece of metal sticking behind the crank pulley, and user Mabok01 was right - this was the pulley disintegrating. Luckily, there is no damage to the timing chain cover, more like polishing :)

Fitted new crank pulley, new idler pulleys, new tensioner, and replaced the alternator pulley with OAP from petrol version (INA 535 0071 10, had to file off the 'ring' on the alternator).

Hi, rather than start a new thread I thought it best to post back into this one.

Most of the links (to the items required) I have found in this thread seem to have now expired so I just wanted to check a couple.

I believe I need the full tensioner kit AND a replacement crank pulley (and possibly replacement crank pulley bolts?).

Are these the kits that I need, (and is one any better than the other)?

Ebay (a2zwakefield)

Ebay (ziggy-a2z)

What are the crank pulley bolts that I (may) need?

Many thanks :)

One says genuine parts so if they really are i would check the Ford prices and go with that one.

How much is the tensioner froma Jaguar dealer?

Yeah, a2zwakefiled says "Original Gates/INA parts", but then ziggy-a2z also says that they have a full range of Gates parts, so I guess either is as good? (seems one comes with a power steering belt too, not sure if that is any use or not though?)

Do Ford / Jag sell a 'kit' like the Gates one, or do I need to know exactly which individual parts I am asking for (if so, which parts DO I want?)

Also, if I phone a Jag dealer what 'car' do I have to ask for the part for, or do I just ask a Jag dealer for the tensioner for a Ford Mondeo... ?

Hey, just wondering if I wanted to change the belt just for the moment, would the tensioner still have to be removed? I have the belt but I wont be able to order the kit for a few weeks....:(

I believe so, as I believe that the belt is routed BEHIND the tensioner.

Has your belt busted then? Not sure there is much point in replacing the belt early otherwise, if your tensioner has gone, as I would imagine the flapping and subsequent 'tugging' on the new belt will likely stretch / damage it...

Just over 70 quid here, and then you need the belt, idler pulleys, and crankshaft pulley, and they don't seem to sell those seperately, although they do have a kit....

The kit they have is HERE which includes the belt, tensioner, crankshaft pulley and bolts, but do I also need idler pulleys? Also will the belt be the correct length?

It hasnt busted but its definitely on the way out...im commuting everyday and cant really take the risk of it snapping on the road....I dont mind wearing a belt for a couple of weeks until I get the kit nd replace both..

Id like to report back on this topic..

Seeing as the rest of the vehicle was getting a bit ropey and worth less than a Rizla someone wiped their @ss with, i decided to tack weld my crank pulley. That was just over 20k ago and guess what? Not only have i not had any more idle rattles in all that time, but it hasnt caused my crank to explode or any other imagined crap i was told would happen...

Hope you all continue to enjoy cursing and scraping your knuckles/emptying your wallet on crank pulleys every 5k....

Get the welders out and enjoy quiet tickovers!

I've just seen this on the FordPartsUk website:

http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_mondeo_20tdi__and_22tdi_duratorq_diesel_kit_f_KITMISC4.htm

It mentions a hydraulic tensioner, whereas I'm sure I've read on the forums people talking about a 'spring'.

Has the design of the tensioner been changed to overcome the issue that we have, and perhaps after market ones are still 'sprung' ?

It says it contains all the parts for "Ford Technical Service Bulletin TSB 18.2005", but I don't know where / how I can look this up?

Does anyone know mark derby no or I need to contact him

Send him a PM? Looks like he has not signed in for a while.

His website was down for a while some time back also.

Hey.
I'm new here, unfortunately, I only now see this thread.
How do I get excited the spring stuck again? It is very strong. The bottom spring that attaches to the generator ...

I used google translate, im Danish so I hope it makes sens

You really need to buy a special tool. In uk about 25 euro on ebay. Or make one - photos on this thread i think. You might get a small spring compressor on the spring but i havent seen one myself that would fit.
