Hello everybody

I have a 58 reg Mondeo Titanium estate, 2.0 TDCi

A while ago I changed the offside brake light bulb. When I attempted to lock the car afterwards using the remote key fob I could hear something was not right and noticed the following issues:

  • Both offside doors failed to lock. The near side doors however did lock and the boot locked.
  • The power folding mirrors did not fold in, they remain folded out.
  • When the car is running none of the electronics controlled from the driver's door buttons work, i.e. I cannot move the wing mirrors and none of the electric windows respond. However the nearside windows do work when using the buttons on those nearside doors.
  • The rear offside door electric window does not respond to the button on this door either. Nothing seems to work on the drivers side of the car.

I have checked several fuses in the boot (including FA2) and under the glove box (including F17). All appear to be in good condition. I have removed the driver's door interior panel. All the cabling appears in good order. I replaced the driver's door control module and this has had no effect.

I've reached the limit of my own ability and knowledge and before I take it to a mechanic I was wondering if anybody might have a solution to my problem. I can't be certain that changing the brake light bulb was the trigger, but it was a significant coincidence as I noticed these electronic faults just after changing the bulb.

Any ideas as how to solve the problem will be hugely appreciated! Cheers

Thank you for the replies.

I have tried removing the bulb then trying the systems with it removed, but there is no change and they still don't work. The bulb is clear with double contacts and two filaments inside. It fits and it appears to work ok, I think it's the correct type.

I then disconnected the battery for 10 minutes. I re-entered the key-code and started the car. Unfortunately all the faults were still present: no electric response on the driver's side, no locking on this side and the mirrors not folding in. I did however notice that the fuel cap on this side does lock (I don't think this is a response to my tinkering, I think it's just the first I've noticed it).

Any more suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers, Dan

Entirely possible the driver door module has kicked the bucket. I'd get an OBD2 reader (can't remember if the door modules are MS-CAN. If so you'll need one with a MS-CAN switch) and a copy of Forscan. Scan for errors, it'll tell you if it can't communicate with the door module.

I have exactly the same issues. Did you ever diagnose what was wrong?

I recently had the very same problem. Mine occured straight after a Major service but they couldn't help me... I looked at the Electrics and found it was a power problem in the door harness.....everything stopped working. The loom had lost the 12V power supply. The 12V power pin in the loom connector attached to the car body side had broken. I did have to reprogram the window switches as the window would power down but not up without keeping the switch up. (Youtube gave me the answer to this)
