I'm sure it's impossible, so it's a wild shot in the dark.
2012 Mondeo with 2.0 EcoBoost engine with PowerShift gearbox. I've been trying to learn how to use the manual mode of the gearbox as I'm not satisfied with the "Drive" mode for every day driving and the "Sport" mode is over the top for the same type of driving.
As its quite different using the PowerShift in manual mode compared to a full manual gearbox, there's no muscle memory to learn. So I've been trying to keep the gear number in my head, adding and subtracting the gear number as I flip the lever up or down, which seems to be working fine so far. However I've found that sometimes the gearbox will override my decision and change itself, especially from 3rd to 2nd, so the number in my head no longer matches the actual gear so from that point onwards I select the wrong gear (usually 1st while intending to get 2nd). I know the gearbox is trying to avoid stalling the engine but I don't like selecting 1st when moving at 15mph, I'd much rather the engine lug or stall. I don't have a problem with the gearbox going down to 1st from 2nd automatically, in fact, I never select 1st intentionally, I let the car decide.
Is there any way to prevent the gearbox from going down to 2nd from 3rd at all? I'm guessing it's impossible, but I'm hoping it's not.
